Sol d’Oro Southern Hemisphere is an olive oil competition held each year in an olive oil–producing country of the Southern Hemisphere, bringing the excellence of these regions into the spotlight. Each edition is a journey that celebrates not only the quality of extra virgin olive oils, but also the natural beauty and cultural traditions of extraordinary places that inspire and captivate us.
Each year, a new Southern capital of olive oil
Every year, the competition moves to a different country in the Southern Hemisphere, giving a voice to olive oil producers from Argentina, Chile, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and other countries that are part of this fascinating geographical context. The competition brings together and celebrates the diversity of these territories, recognizing producers who are committed to continuous improvement and innovation in their products.
Who evaluates quality?
As with Sol d’Oro Northern Hemisphere, in the Southern Hemisphere an international jury of experts is entrusted with examining the competing samples with the utmost care and impartiality.
Each sample is evaluated through a blind tasting process that ensures an objective and merit-based selection, rewarding only the finest olive oils.
For the Southern Hemisphere, the categories reflect the richness and diversity of extra-European productions, shaped by opposite harvest seasons and different climatic conditions. Oils are evaluated in the Extra Virgin, Organic and Monovarietal categories; the PDO category is not included, as it is a certification reserved exclusively for products of European origin.
